2021 Saturday mornings RYA Stage 1 & 2 Toppers (only by invitation)

Important - This course is being run for students who were previously waitlisted on other courses and have been given this course as an alternative option.

It is not open for general bookings

Course: RYA Stages 1&2 (Young Sailors Start Sailing Scheme)

Age Group: 10-14 year olds

Boat: Topper single-handed dinghy

Requirements: No previous sailing experience required, though youngsters moving from Optimists to Toppers will normally complete these stages again. This is because the Topper is a more powerful and less stable boat than the Optimist and training takes place in a less sheltered area of the Pond.

Duration: 8 Saturday mornings. Cost £240 (Frensham member); £310 (non-member)

Course description: By the end of the course, youngsters will have acquired a range of sailing skills and background knowledge and be well on the way to being a confident small boat sailor.

RYA Scheme: At Frensham we teach all four stages of the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. Stages 1, 2 and 3 are taken in single-handed dinghies (Optimists for 8-10 year olds and Toppers for 10-14 year olds). Stage 4 requires a two-handed dinghy (a Cadet or Feva) for 10-14 year olds.

We also teach up to Level 3 of the Adult RYA National Sailing Scheme.
